"How is it possible that a plank of wood, two pieces of metal, and four urethane wheels bolted together can represent so much to people?" – TONY HAWK, from the introduction to Stalefish: Skateboard Culture From The Rejects Who Made It, by Sean Mortimer. The rest of the book gets at answering this question.
All week I'll be making my quote of the day selections from Stalefish – a new collection of interviews with Jim Fitzpatrick, Russ Howell, Stacy Peralta, Dave Hackett, Steve Olson, Steve Alba, Lance Mountain, Kevin Harris, Tommy Guerrero, Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Mike Vallely, Daewon Song, Jamie Thomas, Bob Burnquist, and Chris Haslam – to build up to the big book signing / Ray Underhill benefit event at Skatelab on Saturday, May 31 at Skatelab in Simi Valley, CA.
I'll also have an interview with Stalefish author Sean Mortimer up this week before the event. (Mortimer also co-wrote Tony Hawk: Occupation Skateboarder, and The Mutt: How To Skateboard And Not Kill Yourself, the autobiographies of Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen).
