After a big week with all the Oregon Trifecta action, the Dew Tour is in town in Portland this weekend. Skate Park contest went to Sheckler, P-Rod, and Lutzka (dig my paparazzo shot above, showing Sheckler's new "SKATE LIFE" tat, his 'lil bro Shane sharing some spotlight, and the heavily tattooed and heavily rippin' Curtis Colamonico, who made it to the top-6 Finals jam session). Vert contest went to Bob Burnquist, PLG, and Bucky Lasek. Great contests, both: Check out AST.com for the full reports and results.
I'm in Portland this week, and I'm loving it here. There are so many sick skateparks around here that a four-day visit full of Dew Tour responsibilities doesn't do it justice, so I'm already scheming to get back here soon. But I will say this: Burnside will humble a man. I've managed to get out of there without injury so far, but the place is gnarly. It's worth going, and it's awesome just to behold on a day like today when it's going off (is it ever not going off?), but tomorrow I'm seeking out smoother 'crete, and there's plenty of it around here.
My own biases are pretty clear: I personally love to skate concrete bowls, and Portland and the rest of the Northwest is where it's at if you love to skate concrete. Still, all the Dew Tour street skaters here are talking up Department of Skateboarding, so I'm going to go check that out too while I'm in town. I also get to check out the private Nike SB facility tonight for some swank VIP party.
More later...
