I've featured Hopeless Old Men on Skateboards cartoonist Mark Conahan a couple of times recently, and I'm stoked to see this feature on Conahan from KPTV, the local Fox affiliate in Portland.
I'm stoked on the clip for a couple of reasons, even though it's obviously a little bit overblown in Fox-y kinds of ways:
First, Conahan's head of hair is way grayer than mine, and at 47 he's got, like, 14 years on me, which makes me feel like a young, young man.
Second, it's awesome to see somebody devote themselves so fully to securing a future for skateboarding. Conahan's contributions are literally set in concrete, and will be around for a long time to come, and – as the story mentions – his role in the legacy of Portland's skateparks is just getting started: There are 16 more Portland parks to come, thanks to Conahan and other skaters who made it happen and should be role models to anybody else involved in skateboarding
