I interviewed Shaun White this morning for the Dew Tour website, and came away with one great quote I couldn't fit into the story.

"Skateboarding is just so huge now. The only way I really see it... There’s a community in my neighborhood, and with the building permit they had, they were zoned for a park, and they were like, 'Okay, we’ll put a skatepark in.' And I’m telling you, it is the worst skatepark you’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s terrible! It’s horrible! But the thing is packed, every single day. Skateboarding is so huge, and people are so desperate for places to skate, that they’ll even mob a place like that. I just love it, and now to be doing it in arenas and on tour… it’s just so much fun to see."

Elsewhere in the interview, White referenced the hit YouTube "surfer on the news" clip and did a spot-on impersonation, which gives me a perfectly good reason to post that clip here:



White went on to finish 6th in the Prelims ("you just drop in and smack the lip like, 'wah-pah'!!!!") after Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Buster Halterman, Andy Macdonald, and Bucky Lasek. Still, he'll probably win the Finals on Sunday. My outlandish Alex Perelson prediction the other day was especially without merit since I didn't know he had a busted wing. He skated in his cast today, but didn't make the cut for Finals. My bad.
