DVS files the first of four entries in the 2009 Transworld Skate & Create video competition today with "Wood," an arty and stylish piece of work that sends Daewon Song, Torey Pudwill, Andrew Brophy, Zered Bassett, Kenny Hoyle, and Jimmy Cao into a warehouse with a set of obstacles and a blank slate to let director Colin Kennedy, director of photography Marc Ritzema, and art director Matthew Deak run wild. While I expect some of the next entries will literally run wild, this one is actually sublimely subtle: Stacks of wood and lots and lots of cherry blossoms make this look as much like an art installation as a skate video, but the skating is top-notch too, featuring some choreographed doubles, serious tricks, and a hip-high backside smith grind closer that's worth a couple of rewinds all to itself.
While you're waiting for the rest of the 2009 entries (Osiris, DC, and 2009 winning team etnies), you can revisit all of the 2008 videos here (DVS won the contest in 2008).
